He landed at Gosnold, on the islandof Cuttyhunk, off the coast near New Bedford. Storehouse and fort stood and the corner stone was taken from the original wall ofthe fort laid out by the explorers three hundred years ago. The memorial reads:—■ Tercentenary Memorial to Bartholomew Gosnold and his companions who landed here June 4 (O. S. May 25) 1602 and built on this Islet the First English habitation on the Coast of N. E. Comer stone laid June 4, 1902. Dedicated Sept. i, 1903 on the anniversary of Gosnolds death at Jamestown, Virginia. The whole island on which this memorial is situated was given to the DartmouthHistorical Society by Messrs.
