British Medical Services in the Second World War Army Blood Transfusion Service: Refrigerated blood supplies arriving at a Casualty Clearing Station (CCS) in France in January 1940. Field Transfusion Units (FTU) worked with Casualty Clearing Stations and Field Dressing Stations (FDS) and were supplied from a central bank which collected blood from donors.
