Nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate, retired Marine Corps Major General Charles Frank Bolden, Jr. was appointed NASA’s twelth Administrator on July 17, 2009. Bolden’s career with NASA began when he was selected as an astronaut candidate in 1980.
