. Breeder and sportsman. Horses. Vol XVIII. No 7. Ho. »18 BUSH STREET, SAN FRANCISCO, SATURDAY, FEB. 14, JOOS, ff*<fc ELECTION, Owned by N. J. Stone- Brookside Farm, Mountain View. Cal, ELECTION. It is almost unnecessary to remind our readers that the above picture represents another one of tha many sons of the dead hero of Palo Alto, for his likeness oan be traced in every line. In the death of Electioneer we miss one of the greitest sireB in tbe trotting world, and we must look to his sons to carry on the good work to which he gave buou an impetns. Oar attention is attracted to everyone of them by an irresistible impulse to see if there is not that 'something" about them which will keep forever green the memory of their sire. In nearly every requirement he filled all that the most exacting horseman conld desire to command the attention of the publio as well as the student and lover of man's greatest friend, the horse. No mistake oan be made by selecting one that has snob a sire. Is it any won- der then, that the prices paid for his progeny, both here and in the Eastern States, reached Boch high figures? Is not the Electioneer family already proving itself a speed-produc- ing family, and one that will breed on? The recent Palo Alto sale plainly demonstrated the fact that tbe get of the old horse is considered pracious. Should sales be held every succeeding year, this stock will increase in the same ratio as It has during the past few years. The picture presented is that of Election, standing hands high. He is a beautiful bay, with three white fee1 and small star in forehead, and weighs about 1,075 pounds. His magnificent limbs are well set under him; he has a re markably fine loin, good arm aod sloping shoulders; and be* tween the point of hip aod cap of hock is longer than most horses of his siz?. He is level-headed, kiod and gentle in disposition, aod in action pure gaited, for with only three months' training ho could trot a mile in 2:30. M
