Abandoned boiler at the site of the Golden Progress Mine near Idaburn in Central Otago on New Zealands South Island. This boiler possibly powered the battery ore crusher. The site is known for having one of the last two standing poppet heads in New Zealand. Steam power was used for a variety of purposes, principally to move men and ore up and down the mine shaft. At Golden Progress the shaft head had two boilers. Te mine was worked on and off from c1884 to 1936. The mne tands on private land but visitors are allowed. Access is closed from September to October for lambing. The Department for Conservation (DOC) look after the site and have places a number of information panels for visitors.
