I shutoff regulating valve C and safety valve : then commenced to loosen the pack- ing nut preparatory to taking off theguard. After screwing the nut out three01 four threads it commenced to leakslightly, and the feed glass immediatelyfilled with oil. I screwed the nut back toplace and looked at gage glass; it showedneither oil nor water, and the other twofeeds had quit working. I opened thewaste cock, and not over a tablespoonfulof oil came out; refilled the lubricator,and it worked all right. I moved the en-gine ahead and back four or
