Miss FrancesGage who became principal in 1893 was happily present, having returnedto Turkey to engage in Y. W. C. A. work, after fifteen years absence,and one of the helpful features of the anniversary was a Y. W. C. un-der the care of Miss Gage. The Orient for July 1 incommenting on this session says, It would surprise people in the Occi-. dent to discover how similar the problems of the Oriental family havebecome in these recent years and how wisely these women were able toface them. Another pleasant feature of the occasion was the bringing of greetingsfrom the Womans Board by Miss Annie Merrill of Des Moines, la., andthe proposal of Professor Hagopian that the school make an offering for i9i4\ Editorial 379 the Golden Anniversary Gift of the Board. The amount received wasforty liras^—about $176. After this the whole school joined in singinga Jubilee Hymn to the tune of America, for which Dr. C. C. Tracy hadwritten the words. Miss Willard, principal for the last seventeen years,and honored and beloved by all her associates and pupils, was presentedwith a loving cup. The occasion was further signalized by the forma-tion of an Alumnae Association with about forty-five alumnae present.
