BRADFORD—(MANCHESTER) 91 In 1865, a few connected with Hanover Street Church,prominent amongst them being William Oxley, commencedto hold open-air services in Bradford, the first taking placeon May 8. The services were attended with good results,so the house and shop, 123, Mill Street, were rented andopened as a preaching room and school on July 1st of thesame year. There was a Church membership of six, twoteachers and 48 scholars. Next a piece of land was boughtin Mill Street, and on December 22nd, 1867, William Sander-son preached the opening sermons of a school-chapel whichhad been erected upon it at a cost of ^602. In 1885classrooms were added at a cost of ;£i68. William Oxleyand his sisters Mary, Emma and Rebecca, laboured devotedfvfor the cause, and give generously of their means.
