Parachute test for Orion spacecraft. Test version of the Orion Crew Module (CM) touching down under its main parachutes. The CM is part of the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV). Here, the parachutes are being tested under the stress of the Launch Abort System (LAS). To simulate these conditions, a test version of Orion was dropped from a C-17 at 4000 metres above the US Army's Yuma Proving Ground, with the main parachutes deploying soon after leaving the plane, before the capsule had a chance to straighten out. The test was successful, with data gathered for analysis by engineers. Photographed on 23 April 2014.
