African wild cat (Felis silvestris libyca) standing on the branch of a tree. This small, slender cat generally inhabits forested areas but can be found in all habitats in Africa other than pure rain forest and desert. It is thought to be the ancestor of the domesticated cat, which was kept in Egypt by the 4th century Photographed in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, in South Africa and Botswana.
