The dreadfulmonster was ger^, and Barney hastily dressedhimself and ran to the house, awoke the farmer,told him what he had seen, and begged that hemight sleep in the kitchen. He made all kindsof vows and protestations of amendment of life,and swore he would never drink another drop ofliquor or touch again anything that did not be-long to him.
