PACIFIC OCEAN (May 14, 2017) The amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) transits the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Southern California. Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is returning to San Diego from a seven-month deployment to the 3rd, 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
