Nucleopore filter. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a section through a nucleopore filter showing its structure. This is a kind of filter in which holes a few micrometres in size have been created in a plastic membrane. They are most commonly used in microbiology to trap cells while removing all other fluids and smaller particles. Magnification: x400 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
