Discussion The overt rhythms of pigment migration in U. mordax, U. rapax, and U. maracoani exposed to natural changes of illumination are closely adjusted to the equatorial cycle of daylight and darkness, suggesting that the rhythms serve a camouflaging and protective function. U. thayeri does not exhibit an overt rhythm of color change, but it is notable that this species is characterized by patches of pile on the dorsal surface of the carapace and appendages. Possibly.
