Six days later, in thesame vicinity, the enemy dropped one of his largest shells into the positionof the headquarters of the horse battalion, stationed on the Avocourt-Veryroad, just back of Very. Three men were killed and several were wounded,some seriously, by this shell. As the drive progressed the train continued to lose men in killed andwounded. There was no work more dangerous than that of getting up theammunition. But regardless of the casualties, the work of rushing shellsforward did not THE RUINS OF AVOCOURT
