A group of Maoris and Morris Men both turned up to perform at the same spot on the banks of the River Thames at the Oxford Cambridge boat race. When the Hammersmith Morris side heard the Maoris were collecting for 3 year New Zealander Chace who is in the Royal Marsden Hospital, of course they let them go first. In the meantime a bit of light-hearted stick fighting took place in the traditional Morris Dancing style making a wonderful mix of two traditional styles from opposite sides of the world. The Morris Men did themselves proud though showing they could stick their tongues out just as far as the Maoris! The Oxford Cambridge Boat Race is traditionally the first dance out for the local Hammersmith side and 2012 was no exception. The history of this Morris group goes back well over fifty years. The Maoris were collecting for Chace to keep him in the hospital where his treatment is urgently needed.
