Red Ribbon Spider Orchid (Arachnis Maggie Oei) [hybrid]

Arachnis is derived from the greek arachne meaning spider. This is from the superficial resemblance of flowers of the members of this genus to a spider. Three species are reported from Malaysia namely Arachnis flosaeris, Arachnis hookerana and Arachnis maingayi. All three have been used as parents of Hybrids, especially Aranda hybrids. Most Arachnis hybrids are very hardy if kept under full sun conditions. They may be grown in pots of brick and charcoal or planted in beds of soil with mulching and staked to keep them upright. Propogation is by stem cuttings.
