. Cole's garden annual. Vegetables Seeds Catalogs; Nurseries (Horticulture) Iowa Catalogs; Garden tools Catalogs; Flowers Seeds Catalogs; Bulbs (Plants) Seeds Catalogs. 30 Cole's Seed Store, Pella, Iowa ONION Ger. Zwiebel. Ft. Ognon. One ounce will sow 150 feet of driXl; four pounds will sow an acre. In no vegetable, with the exception of cabbage, does this value of the crop raised depend more directly on the quality of seed than the onion. Cole's Reliable Onion Seed is all grown from choice selected bulbs, and has no superior. The stock we offer is sure to grow where soil and season is favorable, and sure to produce an abundance of well-shaped bulbs. Beware of poor seeds at low prices. The Red and Yellow varieties are best for main crops. A rich, light, mellow loam is best to insure successful onion raising, and may be culti- vated to the same crop year after year. The ground should be thoroughly enriched with fine decomposed manure, and be deeplj^ spaded or plowed, harrowed and pulverized, the sur- face being raked free from stones and hard lumps. The main crop should be sown as earlv as the ground may be in working condition. Sow in drills 14 inches apart, and half an inch in depth, at the rate of four pounds to an acre. Keep clean by frequent hoeing and weed- ing; observe not to hoe deep, for the more onion rises out of the ground the finer it is and better it keeps. The onion will ripen in August or early in September, and their full ma- turity will be indicated by the perfect decay of the leaves or top. The bulbs may be drawn from the drills by hand, or by the use of a common garden rake. After being exposed for a few days to the sun for drying, they will be readj' for storing or the market. Per Pickles or Sets. Good ground should be prepared as above, and seed should be sown very thickly in broad drills, about forty pounds to the acre. 1. Danvers Onion YELLOW GLOBE DANVERS.
