St Michael Cornhill, church in the City of London, painting of Aaron by Robert Streeter

St Michael Cornhill, church in the City of London, rebuilt by the parish after the Great Fire of London (1666). Late seventeenth centiury painting of Aaron by Robert Streeter. Aaron was Moses's older brother. In spite of being responsible for making the Golden Calf, he was forgiven and became the first high priest of the Israelites. Traditionally shown in his high priest's robes with a turban and censer: 'And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the Altar, and put on incense, and goe quickly unto the Congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.' Numbers 16:46
