The opinion is muchtoo long for us to reproduce. Edisons specification says: The uhjoet cif this invt-ntlon is to produce means by which theaddition or removal of translating devices in the multiple-arccircuits of a system of electrical distribution shall cause imme-diately .a proper regulation of the current energizing the fieldmagnet of tht; dynamo-electric machine supplying such system, and this without the use of adjustable resistances, or of anymechanism whatever, except the ordinary circuit controllers ofthe lamps. The opinion shows that the earliest date assigned for theconception of the Edison patent was August 19, 1879, and thedate of Brushs patent was July 22 of the same year. Edisons. These hoists have equalizationpipes to prevent drawing air with dust from the shop into thecylinder. Power to run these tools was furnished by a 10sl4-inchstraight line Rand compressor mounted on two 8x8-inchtimbers set in the ground in lieu of a foundation. An auto-matic unloading device regulates the operation of the com-pressor to suit the consumption of air. The volume of thecylindrical storage reservoir used in this case was about 30cubic feet. The more interesting and novel of these machines will beillustrated in a later issue. REGULATION OF COMPOUND WOUND DYNAMOS. A very important and far-reaching decision has just beenhanded down by the United States Circuit Court of the North-ern District of New York in what is known as the Compou
