The INIormou people were also directedand warned not to purchase goods or inany manner deal witli those who refusedor did not; have the sign. Tt;e objectseemed to be only to deal with their ownpeople, to the exclusion of all others. The result of the>e measures on the partof the church was to force many whowere Gentiles or apostate Mormons tosacrifice their goods, and leave the Terri-tory for want of patronage. However, theorder was not very strictly enforced—orcomplied with yet many of these signsare to be seen in Salt Lake City and otherparts ofthe Territory on buildings occupiedby the faithful.
