These flowers, as well as the Pink, are said to have heen introduced first into England from Italy, and have derived their names in the English language irom their colourâPink, Carnation orflesh-colour. 'The Carnation was also, as wen as the Clove, styled by the old English florists, Clove-Gilllflower, from its blooming in July. iCtoiations are divided into two main divisions, Bizarres and Flakes. There are three classes of BizarresâScarlet, Crimson, and Pink and Purple; â¢and there are Scarlet, Purple, and Rose Flakes. Bizarre is an epithet borrowed from the French, implying something fantastic, and there must be three distinct tints or shades. Flaked flowers have stripes or flakes of colour on a white ground. In order to make the distinctions of the florist as clear as possible, we refer to the accompanying diagram.
