Bofors 40mm Anti aircraft Autocannon on Gun Platform & Carriage
The Bofors anti-aircraft gun was developed by the Swedish company of that name entering service widely with the allies in WW2. Its development ironically enhanced when Krupp purchased a third share of Bofors and modernised their factories. The gun had a top mounted 4-round magazine (see image) replaced by hand & firing around 80 to 120 2lb shells each gun had an advanced sighting system with two crew using reflector sights and a third standing (see image) who would calculate "lead" to deliver shells on target. The gun was built under licence in Britain from 1938. It was also equipped with armour piercing shells. The gun platform was also innovative with setup of the stable platform taking around one minute.
