Redcar Boating Lake

Redcar Boating Lake situated at the Coatham end of the esplanade was originally a very popular location for locals and tourists alike. It was the site of Redcar's winning heat of It's a Knockout on 16th May 1976 when they defeated Durham and Carlisle to qualify for Jeux Sans Frontières at Bad Mergentheim, West Germany. The lake re-opened in October 2009 after a two-year, 700,000 refurbishment. The small wall in the foreground was used as a refuge to allow safe access into and out of the boats.
