Cambodia: Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot with Khmer Rouge East Zone commander So Phim. So Phim (1925? - June 3, 1978) also called Sao Phim Pheum or Sao, aka So Vanna, was Khmer Rouge military commander of the eastern part of Democratic Kampuchea. In 1978, after troops from the eastern region were unable to resist an incursion by the Vietnamese, So Phim was accused of being an ally of Hanoi. A massive purge led by Ke Pauk was ordered in the eastern zone. Encircled by the forces of Pol Pot, on 3 June 1978 So Phim committed suicide. His wife and children were captured and were all killed.
