Indian cigarette packaging. 1990s. Highly decorative paper wrappers. Plastic free. These are not cigarettes as we know them, but “bidis”, a hand-rolled cigarette with tobacco stuffed inside tendu leaves and tied with a thread, mostly assembled by housewives from home. They are popular in poorer households as they are a lot cheaper than branded cigarettes, and not regulated in any way.
