A booming bike sharing business has flooded China’s streets with cycles. But the bicyclists’ habit of abandoning their rides anywhere is causing havoc and chaos. Now, many Chinese citizens demand better regulations of the rental bike business. Chinese police have confiscated thousands of bikes that have been discarded in large piles. Such piles are a common sight in cities like Shenzhen. The Chinese Ministry of Transport as issued a draft proposal on rules requiring local governments to better manage the bike-sharing business, including development of dedicated parking zones for the bikes. Bike-sharing companies like Mobike and Ofo plan to put thousands more on the streets.
