Get ac- quainted with the district forester, the inspector, the towerman and the local forest fire warden. When intending to do something that will make a smoke near woods in the forest fire season, March 1 to June 1 and October 1 to December 1, call the nearest towerman and tell him about it so that there will be no mistake when he sees the smoke. ^ If a fire should occur do what you can to extinguish it promptly. Notify the nearest towerman and the local forest fire warden. If you do not understand how to extinguish forest fires, write the Department of Forests and Waters for a free copy of Bulletin 36, ''Forest Fire Warden ; Refusal to allow trespassing for hunting sometimes makes it diffi- cult to get local co-operation in forest fire prevention and extinction. You must weigh the advantages and disadvantages of this course of procedure and do what you think best. You can often do effective work in forest fire prevention by collect- nig damages from those who have burned your woodland; by collecting and giving evidence in forest fire cases which the Department of Forests and Waters is prosecuting.
