Twin-headed Romanov Eagle on top of an obelisk at the Market Square commemorates the Imperial visit to Helsinki in 1835.


In the center of Helsinki Market Square stands an obelisk topped by a two-headed bronze eagle of the Romanov dynasty. The Czarina`s stone was erected in 1835 in honor of the the first visit to Finland of Czarina Alexandra Fedorovna, the spouse of Czar Nikolay I. Finland was then a Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire.
