Forest with lot of tree ferns cover the shores of Lake Rotomahana in the volcanic valley Waimangu in New Zealand.

Erupting Mount Tarawera on New Zealand's North Island created at 10 June 1886 the 17 kilometers long Waimangu Volcanic Rift Valley. It is now the youngest geothermal ecosystem with a wide variety of volcanic features like the Lake Rotomahana with a lot of hot springs and fumaroles.
