figure of young women greiving in Hampstead Cemetery, carved from stone Hampstead Cemetery covers 37 acres and was opened in 1876. The chapels were designed by Charles Bell in 1876 in Kentish Rag and Bath Stone. The southern chapel was for those to be buried in consecrated ground south of the main avenue; the other was for burials in the unconsecrated ground to the north.
