Optical mouse optics
Optical assembly inside an optical mouse, produced by Logitech (side view). Light from a red LED (right) is directed by a plastic prism (center) onto the surface over which the mouse is moved. A sensor mounted on the bottom of the chip (left) takes consecutive images of the illuminated surface. The images are then processed to deduce the motion of the mouse. Photo Dec 2008.
