A derelict church site was the reason for a demonstration by the right wing British National Party, who had heard that the site could, amongst many other things, potentially be turned into a mosque although it seems there are no immediate plans for this to happen. The protest attracted a few dozen right wing activists from the BNP as well as a handful from the British Golden Dawn, an offshoot of Greece's far right party. Counter-protesting were a small group of Unite Against Fascism activists while several Muslim youths watched from a distance. A strong police presence ensured that both the protest and coumnter protest were peaceful.
