An Alabama red-bellied turtle swims in an aquarium exhibit representing the Mobile Delta at Dauphin Island Sea Lab and Estuarium, June 23, 2017, in Dauphin Island, Alabama. The Alabama red-bellied turtle, an endangered species, is only found in the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta in Mobile and Baldwin counties adjacent to Mobile Bay. The Mobile Delta is 30 miles long and 12 miles wide, with more than 200,000 acres of swamps, river bottomlands and marshes and one of the most bio-diverse ecosystems in the world. Dauphin Island Sea Lab offers education and exhibits focusing on the Mobile Tensaw River Delta, Mobile Bay, the Barrier Islands, and the Northern Gulf of The facility has 31 aquariums totaling over 30,000 gallons with more than 100 species on display.
