Chromobacterium violaceum bacteria culture. Petri dish containing a sheep's blood agar (SBA) medium, which has been inoculated with Gram-negative Chromobacterium violaceum bacteria. C. violaceum is only very rarely found to be a human pathogen, and naturally produces an antibiotic known as violacein, which is currently being studied for the treatment of colon and other cancers. This was the appearance of the growth after 24 hours of incubation at 37 degrees Celsius.
