During the same period he wastreasurer of the Catholic Total Abstinence Union of America, and chaplainof Brownson Council of the Knights of Columbus, and on the fifth anniver-sary of his chaplainship he was presented with a handsome engraved pursecontaining $200 in gold, the gift of his friends of the council. He is alsoone of the leaders of the Catholic Total Abstinence Union in the UnitedStates, and has lectured throughout the East. From February, 1912. toNovember, 1914, he was assistant to Father Mellon.
