Puerta Calera with ancient Volcano overlooking Hotel
Lanzarote is an island of volcanoes in the Atlantic Ocean formerly called the Fortunate Islands. There is little vegetation except where planted around the villages. The island has no water except rainwater and a desalination plant due to the last eruptions which lasted 6 years at the beginning of the 20th century. The lava covered landscape has a strange and compelling beauty. The climate is temperate and consistent all year round though a strong breeze constantly blows caused by the Atlantic trade winds. Sited on the Tropic of Cancer it is the perfect holiday island for sunshine and relaxation
