Jeronimos Monastery in Belem, Lisbon, displays some of the finest examples of Manueline architecture. Within the monastery, the church of Santa Maria has a splendid vaulted nave. In the gallery behind the nave is found this crucifix with the backdrop of the spectacular vaulting in the nave, held aloft by slender octagonal pillars.
