Leningrad, St Petersburg. Alexander Pushkin, June 1799-10th Feb1837, is second only to Tolstoi among Russian poets and authors, Crowds gather to recite his poems in Leningrad every anniversary of his death. He died in a duel with his wife's lover. One site used for the readings of his poems is the impressive Red Rostral Columns outside Russia's exchange, originally built as beacons for ships navigating the waters of the Neva River.
