The ash bin is directly across the street from the boiler roomand ashes are delivered to it through a bridge by means of a telpher-age system which hoists and transports the ash cars from the boilerroom basement up to the level of this bridge and thence across intothe tower where the contents are dumped into the bin. The bottomof the bin is 20 ft. above the railroad track that runs through the. GENERAL VIEW OF THE POWER STATION AND ASH TOWER. S base of the tower and the ashes are handled through dumpinggates into gondola cars standing on this track. The capacity of thebin untrimmed is 300 tons. The bin is of steel column construction, thoroughly braced. The bin itself consists of an enclosure of brick;walls built around these supporting columns. All the steel workinside and outside is covered either by brickwork or by reinforced!concrete. The roof of the ash bin is composed of reinforced con-crete slabs, similar to the roof construction of the power station. The General Features of the Power Station Equipment. The unit system of design was followed in laying out the equip-ment of the power station. The boiler plant of 32 boilers is dividedinto eight groups of four boilers each, four of these groups beingon the first floor and four directly over them on the second floorof the boiler house.
