Other bulb importa- tions included 6,319,082 crocus, 8,219,- 460 lily, 14,9r)l,170 lily of the valley and 70,750 unclassified. In addition to the above imports, there were 750 special permits issued during the year, covering the entry of 9,573,199 jjlants and bulbs. Importa- tions hnve already been made, under 518 of these special permits, of 3,344,- 026 plants and bulbs. The special per- mits included ninety-five, covering 2,- 611,259 gladioli, of which 2, have been imported; sixty-two, covering 3,209 dahlias, of which 1,180 have been im- ported; 189, covering 2,573,248 iris, of which 605,881 have been imported; 103, covering 383,135 peonies, of which 56,- 294 have been imported; ninety-one, covering 2,327,405 other bulbs, rhizomes and roots, of which 684,869 have been imported; ninety-nine, covering 544,747 ornamentals, of which 487,851 have been imported; eighty-four, covering 13,041 rose plants, of which 7,973 have been imported; fifty, covering 8,194 orchids, of which 7,013 have been imported; 112, covering the importation of 1,106,414 herb plants, of which 229,718 have been imported, and nine, covering 2,547 fruits, of wliich 156 have been imported. During the year the solicitor of the department reported the conviction of nineteen shippers for violations of the plant quarantine act, fourteen in regard to
