The sides stand on a 10-inch concrete foun- dation; above this is a wall of %-inch grooved boards, covered with building paper; this, again, is covered with feather-edge weather boards. Above this is a 2x4 sill, and then two feet of glass to the eave plate, making the sides six feet high from the ground, inside the building. The ends are built the same way up to the 2x4 sill; above that the ends are all glass. The building nearly level ground. I wish to heat it to 60 degrees in zero weather. How many runs of 2-inch pipe will be needed to be sure to keep the temperature up to that point? I have a new Lord & Burnham boiler, which will be located in a cellar under a shop and potting shed. The cellar is about nine feet deep and fifty feet distant from the greenhouse. A hot water system will be used. I wish to use 3-inch pipe for the main, carrying it overhead outside to the greenhouse and returning it underground to the boiler. G. E. S. About 450 square feet of radiation will be required to heat the house de- scribed to 60 degrees. For main flow and return pipes, between the green- house and the boiler, 3-inch will be the correct size. Within the house I would use three flow pipes, placing one on each wall plate and the other eighteen to twenty inches below the ridge. Although nine 2-inch returns would heat the house, it will be found more economical of fuel if ten are used. Three should be on each wall; the other four, supplied by the main under the ridge, should be under the middle benches. Connect the expansion tank with the main supply pipe near where it enters the greenhouse.
