Kinked thistle in autumn

Thistles are colloquially referred to as plants that have pointed spines and can sting. During the Middle Ages, thistles were one of the most commonly used coat of arms flowers. Church orders also used the depiction of thistles in their coats of arms as a symbol of fortitude and loyalty. Bent thistles stand for loneliness, divorce, faithlessness, sadness, depression, partner loss, separation.
