Brown thrasher (Toxostoma rufum)-Hall County, Georgia. Brown thrasher soaking up some spring morning sunshine. The Brown thrasher (Toxostoma rufum) is the state bird of Georgia. It is common in the eastern United States, and is the only thrasher typically living east of the Rocky mountains. They are usually hiding in shrubs and bushes but are very territorial and will attack if they are threatened when their young are nearby.
