In the northeast, near Kingtehchen (Ji: |g ^) is foundmost of the white clay which forms the material for the porce-lain industry. Formerly, the manufacture of porcelain pro-duced finer articles and employed many more men. Even nowpieces of porcelain made in earlier centuries receive very highprices. 28 GEOGKAPHY OF CHINA The hills and mountains of Kiangsi have many trees, andtimber is an important product. In the western mountains near the Hunan border aremines of coal. The best mines are at Pingsiang (^ M), nearthe Hunan border, and their coal is brought to market byHunan railways and river.
