The amphibious transport dock ship USS San Antonio (LPD 17) is docked pier side at a Portsmouth, Virginia, shipyard undergoing repairs near her home port of Norfolk, Virginia, USA. The USS San Antonio is the lead ship of the US Navy's "amphibious transport dock or landing platform" (LPD) ships. It is capable of delivering up to 800 US Marines along with their helicopters and landing craft. The ship was commissioned January 14, 2006. The ship's unique shape incorporates stealth features, such as antennas mounted inside the two large Advanced Enclosed Mast/Sensor systems.
