There were present at this meeting Bishop Clark, Dr. Walden, and the Rev Drs. AdamPoe, T M. Eddy, Luke Hitchcock, R. S. Rust, J M. Reid,B. F Crary, and Robert Allyn, Hon. Grant Goodrich, andJ. F Larkin. Letters heartily approving such a movement 1096 American Methodism were received from Bishop Morris, General Clinton B„ Fisk,and others. The convention organized the Freedmens Aid Society of. RICHARD S. RUST, Corresponding Secretary Freedmens Aid and Southern Education Society, 1868-1888 the Methodist Episcopal Church. Its declared design wasfor the relief and elevation of the freedmen—to operate General Conference Action 1097 in connection with the Missionary and Church ExtensionSocieties of the Methodist Episcopal Church. A constitu-tion was adopted and officers elected, Bishop Clark beingchosen president, Dr. Walden corresponding secretary, andDr. J M.
