The proposed work should help policymakers make better decisions about managing boater congestion, activity, conflicts and environmental impacts. Winter weather is rough on skin and it's a special problem for fishermen. Wet hands and cold, dry air mean cracked, scaly skin— skin that is susceptible to infection. For years fishermen have dipped their hands and work gloves in bleach to kill the bacteria and fungus that can enter the cracked skin. But this only dries the skin more, says Jim Patterson, a Burlington der- matologist. Instead of the bleach, he recommends a mild solution of betadine or peroxide. Then mix a quart of water with a few capfuls of bath oil and soak your hands for about 15 minutes.
