Nanoparticle design research. Examples of gold and silver nanostructures developed with controlled shapes for use in a wide range of applications including detection, electronics, medicine, and catalysis. The examples shown here are a stack of gold nanocubes with concave surfaces. These concave surfaces aid catalytic applications. The sharp corners are useful for detection applications. This work was carried out by researchers at the Northwestern University Center of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (NU-CCNE), USA. Image produced in 2013.
