Recycling domestic waste. Bulldozer moving piles of domestic and office waste at a recycling centre. The waste is placed onto a conveyor belt and manually sorted into recyclable components that are taken away to be recycled. Items that can be recycled from domestic waste include paper, cardboard, glass, metal, plastic and textiles. The non-recyclable components are incinerated or taken to a landfill site. This is the Syctom materials recovery facility in Nanterre, near Paris, France. Since 2004, it has been operated by Veolia Environmental Services, recycling thousands of tons of waste from around a million people.
